CS2 Warmup Routine - 15 Minutes Before Every Match

By OnlyCSGO TeamJanuary 30, 20256 min read

Why Warming Up Matters

Would a football player run onto the field without stretching? Your hands, eyes, and brain need to warm up before competitive CS2 just like an athlete's body needs to warm up before a game.

A proper warmup activates your muscle memory, sharpens your reaction time, and gets you into a competitive mindset. Pro players never skip warmup — and neither should you.

The 15-Minute Pro Warmup

Minutes 1-5: Aim Botz (Flick Training)

Open the workshop map "Aim Botz" by Mr. uLLeticaL:

  • Spawn 100 bots
  • Pick up an AK-47
  • Stand in the center
  • Kill bots by flicking to their heads
  • Start slow — focus on accuracy over speed
  • Gradually increase speed as you warm up
  • Goal: Kill 100 bots in under 90 seconds while maintaining 80%+ headshot rate.

    Variations:

  • First 50 kills: AK-47 (one taps only)
  • Next 50 kills: M4A4 (spray transfer between bots)
  • Minutes 5-10: Deathmatch (Headshots Only)

Join a community FFA Deathmatch server:

  • Use AK-47 or M4A4 only
  • Only go for headshots — No body shots
  • Focus on smooth crosshair placement at head level
  • Practice counter-strafing before every shot
  • Don't care about your K/D — this is practice
  • Key focus points:

  • Pre-aim corners at head height
  • Stop moving before shooting (counter-strafe)
  • Take your time between kills — accuracy first
  • Minutes 10-13: Spray Practice

    Go to an offline server:

  • `map de_dust2`
  • `sv_cheats 1; sv_infinite_ammo 2; sv_showimpacts 1`
  • Find a wall
  • Practice this:

  • AK-47: Spray 30 bullets, keeping them in a tight group
  • Pull down for the first 10 bullets
  • Pull down-left for bullets 10-20
  • Pull down-right for bullets 20-30
  • Repeat 5 times
  • Then do the same with M4A4 (easier pattern, more bullets).

    Minutes 13-15: Quick Peek Practice

    Still on the offline server:

  • Add a bot: `bot_add; bot_stop 1; bot_zombie 1`
  • Position yourself behind a corner
  • Practice peeking the bot:
  • Wide peek (shoulder peek for information)
  • Jiggle peek (quick peek to bait shots)
  • Ferrari peek (fast wide peek + shoot)
  • Focus on: Moving your crosshair as little as possible when peeking. Your crosshair should already be at head height when you come around the corner.

    Alternative Quick Warmup (5 Minutes)

If you don't have 15 minutes:

  • 2 minutes: Aim Botz — 50 kills, headshots only
  • 3 minutes: FFA Deathmatch — headshots only, AK-47
  • This isn't ideal but it's much better than jumping straight into competitive with cold hands.

What NOT to Do in Warmup

  • Don't play casual/wingman as warmup — Too slow-paced, doesn't activate aim
  • Don't warmup with AWP — Unless you're the team's dedicated AWPer
  • Don't play for K/D in deathmatch — You're training, not performing
  • Don't warmup for too long — More than 30 minutes causes fatigue before your match
  • Don't skip warmup — Even 5 minutes is better than nothing
  • Physical Warmup

Your hands and wrists need physical warmup too:

  • Finger stretches — Spread and close fingers 10 times
  • Wrist circles — Rotate wrists in both directions 10 times
  • Grip exercise — Squeeze and release a stress ball 10 times
  • Arm stretches — Extend arms and pull back fingers gently
  • This prevents RSI (repetitive strain injury) and improves reaction time.

    When to Warmup

  • Before competitive matches — Always
  • After a long break — If you haven't played in 2+ days, warm up longer (20-25 min)
  • Before important matches — League games, tournaments, or rank-up games
  • NOT after midnight — If you're tired, warming up won't help. Go to sleep.
  • Summary

    | Phase | Time | Activity | Focus |

    |-------|------|----------|-------|

    | 1 | 5 min | Aim Botz | Flick accuracy |

    | 2 | 5 min | FFA Deathmatch | Crosshair placement |

    | 3 | 3 min | Spray practice | Recoil control |

    | 4 | 2 min | Peek practice | Movement + aim |

Total: 15 minutes. Do this before every session and watch your consistency improve.
