Why Warming Up Matters
Would a football player run onto the field without stretching? Your hands, eyes, and brain need to warm up before competitive CS2 just like an athlete's body needs to warm up before a game.
A proper warmup activates your muscle memory, sharpens your reaction time, and gets you into a competitive mindset. Pro players never skip warmup — and neither should you.
The 15-Minute Pro Warmup
Minutes 1-5: Aim Botz (Flick Training)
Open the workshop map "Aim Botz" by Mr. uLLeticaL:
Spawn 100 botsPick up an AK-47Stand in the centerKill bots by flicking to their headsStart slow — focus on accuracy over speedGradually increase speed as you warm upGoal: Kill 100 bots in under 90 seconds while maintaining 80%+ headshot rate.
Variations:
First 50 kills: AK-47 (one taps only)Next 50 kills: M4A4 (spray transfer between bots)Minutes 5-10: Deathmatch (Headshots Only)
Join a community FFA Deathmatch server:
Use AK-47 or M4A4 onlyOnly go for headshots — No body shotsFocus on smooth crosshair placement at head levelPractice counter-strafing before every shotDon't care about your K/D — this is practiceKey focus points:
Pre-aim corners at head heightStop moving before shooting (counter-strafe)Take your time between kills — accuracy firstMinutes 10-13: Spray Practice
Go to an offline server:
`map de_dust2``sv_cheats 1; sv_infinite_ammo 2; sv_showimpacts 1`Find a wallPractice this:
AK-47: Spray 30 bullets, keeping them in a tight groupPull down for the first 10 bulletsPull down-left for bullets 10-20Pull down-right for bullets 20-30Repeat 5 timesThen do the same with M4A4 (easier pattern, more bullets).
Minutes 13-15: Quick Peek Practice
Still on the offline server:
Add a bot: `bot_add; bot_stop 1; bot_zombie 1`Position yourself behind a cornerPractice peeking the bot:Wide peek (shoulder peek for information)Jiggle peek (quick peek to bait shots)Ferrari peek (fast wide peek + shoot)Focus on: Moving your crosshair as little as possible when peeking. Your crosshair should already be at head height when you come around the corner.
Alternative Quick Warmup (5 Minutes)
If you don't have 15 minutes:
2 minutes: Aim Botz — 50 kills, headshots only3 minutes: FFA Deathmatch — headshots only, AK-47This isn't ideal but it's much better than jumping straight into competitive with cold hands.
What NOT to Do in Warmup
Don't play casual/wingman as warmup — Too slow-paced, doesn't activate aimDon't warmup with AWP — Unless you're the team's dedicated AWPerDon't play for K/D in deathmatch — You're training, not performingDon't warmup for too long — More than 30 minutes causes fatigue before your matchDon't skip warmup — Even 5 minutes is better than nothingPhysical Warmup
Your hands and wrists need physical warmup too:
Finger stretches — Spread and close fingers 10 timesWrist circles — Rotate wrists in both directions 10 timesGrip exercise — Squeeze and release a stress ball 10 timesArm stretches — Extend arms and pull back fingers gentlyThis prevents RSI (repetitive strain injury) and improves reaction time.
When to Warmup
Before competitive matches — AlwaysAfter a long break — If you haven't played in 2+ days, warm up longer (20-25 min)Before important matches — League games, tournaments, or rank-up gamesNOT after midnight — If you're tired, warming up won't help. Go to sleep.Summary
