CS2 Economy Guide - Master Buy Rounds & Saves

Why Economy Matters

The economy system in CS2 is one of the most important strategic elements. Good economy management means your team has better weapons and utility more often. Poor economy management means you're fighting with pistols against rifles — and losing rounds you shouldn't.

Understanding economy separates good players from great players.

How Money Works in CS2

Round Win Rewards

  • Bomb plant + round win (T): $3,500
  • Round win (CT): $3,250
  • Round win by elimination: $3,250
  • Round Loss Rewards (Loss Bonus)

CS2 uses an increasing loss bonus system:

  • 1st consecutive loss: $1,400
  • 2nd consecutive loss: $1,900
  • 3rd consecutive loss: $2,400
  • 4th consecutive loss: $2,900
  • 5th+ consecutive loss: $3,400
  • This means losing multiple rounds in a row actually gives you more money, making comebacks possible.

    Kill Rewards by Weapon

    | Weapon | Kill Reward |

    |--------|-----------|

    | Knife | $1,500 |

    | SMGs (most) | $600 |

    | Shotguns | $900 |

    | Rifles (AK, M4, etc.) | $300 |

    | AWP | $100 |

    | Pistols | $300 |

    Bomb Plant Bonus

Planting the bomb gives every surviving T player an extra $800, even if the round is lost. This is why planting the bomb is always worth attempting.

    The Four Types of Rounds

    1. Full Buy Round

    Everyone on the team has:

  • Rifle (AK-47, M4A4/M4A1-S) or AWP
  • Kevlar + Helmet ($1,000)
  • Full utility (smoke, flash, HE/molotov)
  • Defuse kit (CT side, $400)
  • Minimum money needed: ~$4,750 (rifle + armor + utility)

    2. Eco Round (Full Save)

Everyone saves their money. Buy nothing or just a pistol:

  • Keep money in the bank for next round's full buy
  • Play for bomb plant on T side ($800 bonus)
  • Try to pick up enemy weapons if you get kills
  • Don't waste money on armor or utility
  • 3. Force Buy

When your team needs to win NOW but can't full buy:

  • Buy the best you can afford
  • Usually means SMGs or Galil/FAMAS with partial utility
  • Common after losing pistol round when you have bomb plant money
  • Risky but sometimes necessary
  • 4. Half Buy (Quasi Buy)

A middle ground between eco and full buy:

  • Kevlar + pistol (Deagle, Five-SeveN)
  • Or SMG + Kevlar
  • Save enough so you can full buy next round even if you lose
  • Round-by-Round Economy Guide

    Pistol Round (Round 1)

    T Side:

  • Option A: Kevlar ($800) — No utility but you can take more damage
  • Option B: Smoke + Flash + P250 — Better utility for executes
  • CT Side:

  • Option A: Kevlar ($800) — Survive more hits
  • Option B: Smoke + Flash + Defuse Kit — Set up your site defense
  • After Winning Pistol (Rounds 2-3)

  • You'll have ~$3,500+
  • Buy SMGs (MP9/MAC-10) for the kill bonus ($600 per kill)
  • Don't buy rifles yet — SMGs are better value in anti-eco rounds
  • Buy Kevlar + Helmet to survive potential Deagle headshots
  • After Losing Pistol (Rounds 2-3)

If bomb was planted (T side):

  • You got $800 plant bonus
  • Round 2: Force buy with Tec-9/P250 + Kevlar
  • If you lose the force: Full eco round 3, full buy round 4
  • If no bomb plant:

  • Full eco rounds 2 and 3
  • Full buy on round 4
  • Mid-Game Economy

  • Always check your team's economy (Tab key)
  • Never buy alone — If 3+ teammates are saving, you save too
  • Keep a minimum of $1,000 reserve if possible (for loss bonus tracking)
  • If you have $8,000+, offer to drop weapons for teammates
  • Common Economy Mistakes

    1. The Solo Buy

One player buys a rifle while everyone else has pistols. This almost never works. One rifle against five rifles loses 90% of the time. Save together, buy together.

    2. Buying After Every Loss

Some players buy Deagles and armor every round, never having enough for a full buy. Discipline your spending — eco rounds exist for a reason.

    3. Ignoring Team Economy

Looking only at your own money. Use the scoreboard to see what your team can afford. A full buy requires ALL five players to have enough.

    4. Not Planting the Bomb

On T side, always try to plant even if the round seems lost. The $800 bonus for your entire team is game-changing for your economy.

    5. Buying Unnecessary Items

  • Don't buy a Defuse Kit on T side (obviously)
  • Don't buy helmet against a team with all AK-47s (AK one-shots through helmet)
  • Don't buy both an AWP and a rifle
  • Don't buy grenades if you can't afford armor
  • Advanced Economy Tips

  • Drop weapons for teammates who are low on money. A team of 5 AKs is better than 3 AKs and 2 pistols.
  • Pick up enemy weapons whenever possible. A free AK is $2,700 saved.
  • Save your weapon in unwinnable situations. If it's a 1v4 with 10 seconds left, hide and keep your rifle for next round.
  • Track the enemy economy — After they win multiple rounds, they might force buy or eco. Adjust your play accordingly.
  • CT side is more expensive — Rifles cost more, you need defuse kits, and you generally need more utility. Manage CT money carefully.
  • Quick Reference: When to Buy

    | Your Money | Team's Money | Action |

    |-----------|-------------|--------|

    | $4,750+ | All $4,750+ | Full Buy |

    | $3,000-4,750 | Mixed | Force Buy (if strategic) |

    | $2,000-3,000 | All saving | Half Buy or Eco |

    | Under $2,000 | All saving | Full Eco |

Remember: The economy is a team resource, not an individual one. Make decisions together.
